The Trustees of the Alpha Chi Rho Educational Foundation (AXPEF), Inc. established the Alexander C. Bartlett “Well” Endowment on October 9, named in memory of Alexander C. Bartlett, a Mill Hall, Pennsylvania native and 2012 graduate of Central Mountain High School (CMHS) who lost his battle with testicular cancer this past June.
The restricted fund will be used to provide an annual 500 dollars scholarship to a CMHS senior, as well as a 500 dollars scholarship to a member of Alpha Chi Rho on any campus. The fund also provides a 500 dollars wellness grant to be given to one chapter of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity to educate their campus on early signs of testicular cancer and the importance of monthly self-exams.
The Endowment Fund is made possible by major gifts from Bartlett’s friends, primarily by his Alpha Chi Rho fraternity brothers from Lock Haven University and donors in the local community. “Alex was able to impact and help out so many people during his undergraduate years in the Fraternity. We hope to continue his name and help others grow and develop with the endowment.” said Brent Juster, an Alpha Chi Rho fraternity brother and an initiator of
the fund.
Landon Allen, LHU Class of 2017 and primary bene- factor of the fund, said, “[The Endowment Fund] was created to continue Alex’s passions and empower those in education, community involvement, and wellness.
Alex liked giving back to his community and helping fellow students. He had a passion for continuing to better himself through education and wellness. This opportunity allows us to continue his dream and legacy.” The Alexander C. Bartlett “Well” Endowment will be managed by the AXPEF, which maintains over three million dollars in assets, including 16 scholarships, low- interest student loans, and grants for educational and service programs for local chapters of the fraternity represented on over 100 college campuses.
Gary DelPiano, President of AXPEF said, “This is a great example of young fraternity men positively impacting their local community while remembering those whose strength and positive attitude were inspiring to many. This is a unique fund because it not only pro-vides annual scholarships, it challenges and inspires young college men in Alpha Chi Rho to educate their peers on men’s health issues through Alex’s story.” DelPiano announced the fund will continue to accept donations with the hope of impacting more college and college bound students. The first scholarships and wellness grant are expected to be awarded in late Spring 2021.
