Peacemaker
HBO Max

Chris Smith, known as Peacemaker, is without a doubt one of the funniest superheroes in the DC Universe. Director James Gunn is truly a genius in how he takes an idea and turns it into a masterpiece. The writing and casting decisions in both seasons one and two have been brilliant, bringing the story to life. John Cena doesn’t get enough credit for the astonishing performance and emotion he portrays on screen. This role will hopefully lead to more opportunities for Cena as he continues to grow in his career.

As his superhero name suggests, Peacemaker represents peace and fights against any force that threatens it. Throughout his heroic career, Chris Smith also battles his own past, which begins to affect his present. He finds himself part of a group called “The 11th Street Kids,” who come together to save the world from Project Butterfly and other “not-of-this-world” threats.

As one of DC’s best creations, Gunn delivers the action, heart, and laugh-until-you-cry comedy that every superhero show needs. He showcases his exceptional skills by turning a regular TV show into an incredible comic book project—one of the best to come under the DC name in years. Season one was a sensation, featuring witty writing and impressive CGI that isn’t tacky, unlike some other DC projects. Now, in the midst of season two’s debut, audiences continue to be thrilled.

Although the changes that came from moving Peacemaker to the Justice Gang at the end of season one introduced a new storyline, many believe Gunn did an amazing job filling in the gaps to make the transition smooth and successful. There’s so much to love about this show—from its feel-good characters to its comic-style writing. Peacemaker is an excellent series, and with the second season still releasing new episodes every Thursday at 9:00 p.m. on HBO Max, there’s even more to look forward to.
