The Women’s Rugby team here at Lock Haven University has been re-building from the ground up since the fall 2021 semester.

Delani Yost, President, and Olivia Everhart, Vice President, are the students who brought the team back last fall. Yost and Everhart have seven years of combined experience in the sport, and have their goals set for the upcoming season. In speaking with Everhart, she stated that she would like to teach a lot of new girls about the sport she loves. They also want to get the ball rolling in regards to hosting some live games. As this team is entirely self-coached, their experience can come in handy until they hopefully get their former high school coach to step in to help.

Recruitment is a huge part of being able to bring this team back, so Yost and Everhart have been working hard at getting the word out. Meeting students at the involvement fair, word of mouth, and hanging up flyers have been their main forms of recruitment, and it’s been successful thus far. As of right now, they have fifty women signed up and are hoping that a majority of them will stick around as the season continues.

It’s looking like the Women’s Rugby team is off to a good, refreshing start and they’re always looking for more players. As a no-cut team, students are always welcome to join regardless of their experience level. Whether you’re an experienced player
or looking for a new sport to try that is full of empowering women, I’d recommend joining the rugby team.

Any students who are looking to join, or would like more information about the club may contact Delani Yost at dry8719@lockhaven.edu or Olivia Everhart at ove5556@lockhaven.edu.
