Thanksgiving is right around the corner and college students are looking forward to it, mainly to have a home-cooked meal once they get home for autumn break. Listed below are the top five sides to have during the holiday.

5 – Green bean casserole

Green bean casserole is ranked at number five because it’s an all-around favorite. It is creamy, while also having a crunchy top because of the fried onions. It is not a common dish for families to serve at Thanksgiving dinner.

4 – Candied yams

Candied yams are ranked at number four because they are not a fan favorite. However, those who do enjoy this dish prefer the sweetness of the candied yams. It is also possible to add extra flavor by adding marshmallows.

3 – Home-made Mac N’ cheese 

This savory dish is in the top three for its soft texture and the cheesy, filling flavor. It is best when homemade and served fairly fresh.

2 – Buttered Corn

Buttered corn has to be ranked second out of five. Corn goes well with everything but is best when mixed in with mashed potatoes. Adding butter can additionally accentuate the flavor of the corn.

1 – Homemade mashed potatoes

Homemade mashed potatoes are an all-around favorite in most families. As a result, it has earned the number one spot in this list. Mashed potatoes can be served in many different ways; plain or with gravy, chicken, or beef. Regardless, they taste best when homemade. Some people keep them in little chunks or they make them completely creamy.
