On the Lock Haven University campus, sororities constantly battle misconceptions about our organizations. From hazing to drinking, many of us are working hard to dispel negative reputations. When Sigma Kappa is faced with these misconceptions on campus as a sisterhood, they must prove instead that they have a bond that can’t be broken. Sigma Kappa has four core values: friendship, personal growth, service, and loyalty.

Sigma Kappa sisters make a bold commitment every day: they live with heart. To them, that means committing themselves to one another, the causes they believe in, and shared dedication to seeking intellectual, spiritual, and social enlightenment throughout our lives. Sigma Kappa sisters are devoted to embodying the values of Sigma Kappa in everything they do.

Their promise to exemplify personal growth, service, friendship, and loyalty. These are what makes Sigma Kappa stand apart. When living with heart makes them more compassionate individuals, leading purposeful lives is rooted in a strong sense of character and values, which ultimately makes us who we are.

For 148 years, Sigma Kappa Sorority has been bonding women in lifelong friendships. In 1874, their founders sought to create a sisterhood that would encourage a woman’s heart, mind and spirit while giving her skills to positively impact her campus and community. Sigma Kappa creates a supportive environment for their members so they can enhance their character and achieve excellence.

The main question remains: why Sigma Kappa? The answer is simple. Sigma Kappa fosters lifelong connection in sisterhood while being true to our founding as an intellectual and social women’s sorority. Through mutual support and respect, we inspire all members to lead a life of purpose. Sigma kappa makes five commitments to members, which are leadership opportunities, sisterhood, philanthropy, member development, and scholarships.

Sigma Kappa provides valuable leadership development opportunities to its members. Sisterhood is the connection of upholding our values and creating an everlasting bond. Sisterhood plays a unique role in the life of each member and in each collegiate and alumnae chapter. Members of Sigma Kappa have a long history of supporting Alzheimer’s disease research at the local level with local memory and retirement centers and at the national level with our philanthropic partner, the Alzheimer’s Association. Sigma Kappa is a leader amongst our country’s women’s organizations, with 121 active college chapters. The Sigma Kappa Foundation is pleased to offer scholarships to cover academic expenses for undergraduate and graduate degree studies.
