Commonwealth University President, Bashar Hanna, is under review after the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculty (APSCUF) held a no-confidence vote Feb 11-12. The vote of no confidence showed that the majority of voting members do not agree with the leadership of the President.

The faculty union polled members as well as coaches at Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield campuses, which showed an overwhelming 88.65% had no confidence in Bashar Hanna.

“The rushed nature of the merger made it difficult to put the curriculum together,” said Stanley Berard, APSCUF President at the Lock Haven campus. “A lot of decisions were made without much consultation.”

Berard encourages not only faculty, but also students and staff to take a stand and express their concerns. From decreased faculty on campuses to face-to-face course availability, there are multiple factors as to why the union called for this vote of no confidence.

Though university President reviews by The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education are conducted shortly before a President’s contract is up, Hanna is being evaluated years ahead of schedule. This will provide an opportunity for faculty, coaches, and students to give feedback and input on the university’s leadership. Hanna himself asked for this review to be conducted ahead of schedule “to gather input” from various stakeholders.
