Warner Bros. Studio released A Minecraft Movie on April 4, based on the Mojang Studios
video game, Minecraft (2011). Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram blew up
with the ‘Chicken Jockey’ meme, which sparked inappropriate behaviors in theaters.

Viewers would throw popcorn, yell and cheer when the “Chicken Jockey” line was delivered.
Some theaters even had to go as far as calling the police and security to get them removed
from the theaters.

I saw the movie after the hype died down, so thankfully, that was not my experience.
I did not expect the plotline to be as action packed, since my perception of the game was a
relaxing creative realm where you can build whatever your heart’s desire.

The film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian
Hansen and I was surprised to see Jennifer Coolidge. The main plot line is siblings Henry and Natalie move to Chuglass following their mother’s death. They meet Dawn, their real estate agent who also runs a mobile petting zoo. On Henry’s first day of school, he gets in trouble when his experimental jetpack is sabotaged and damages a nearby potato chip factory, where Natalie works. To avoid getting expelled,
he pays Garrett to pretend to be his uncle, who takes him to the video game store. There,
Henry discovers the Orb and Crystal and combines them, which transports them to the
Overworld, which is the Minecraft world where they meet Steve.

In the Overworld they have to battle a brood of angry pigs who are trying to take over and make the Overworld the Nether, which is the pig’s dark scary world. Coolidge played a divorced high school principal and I found it quite humorous how she hit a villager with her car; who accidentally slipped through the portal to the real world. They ended up going on a date and it was hilarious to see her make conversation with a villager who just made “heeh” noises.

Overall, I was quite surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this movie. Before going to
see it I thought it was just a meme kids movie but I actually ended up getting invested into
the character development and the plot was quite intriguing.
