LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 22, the ballroom of Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center (DACC) was decorated with 31 local and national agencies representing occupations in Public, Government, and Health & Human Services.

Assembled by Lock Haven’s Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC), the event provided students with the opportunity to practice networking, connect with employers, gather advice from professionals and explore potential careers in their respective fields of study.

Darwin Kysor, Director of CPDC encourages all students to take advantage of the career expo, “even if you’re only a freshman, go walk through these employers, a lot of them will be back next year, and the next year. They will remember, you wouldn’t think they would, but they do.”

The career expo was targeted to specific majors, but was not exclusive to these majors. Kysor made it a point to emphasize how these events can be an essential learning tool to any student, “if there’s not any employers who are of interest to you, or someone thinks there’s not that much here for them, it’s a chance to practice your self-presentation to professionals, so that when you are in front of someone you’re interested in, you’re going to have refined it and it will be better.”

Alex Barton, a criminal justice major and sociology minor, reflected on his experience, “It was important for me to take the time to be here, to set myself up, and make connections. As a student, why wouldn’t I take advantage of this opportunity?” Barton spoke some words of encouragement to his fellow students, “Don’t hold back, ask questions and reach out, they are here to help you learn and grow.”
