LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – In a thrilling Sunday afternoon double header, the Lock Haven tennis team extended its undefeated streak to 4-0 with a commanding 7-2 victory over Penn State Altoona (5-4).
The Lock Haven squad demonstrated their excellence in both doubles and singles play, earning a well-deserved, but not uncommon, triumph. Doubles action kicked off the competition, with the Bald Eagles sweeping all three matches to grab an early 3-0 lead.
At No. 1 doubles, the formidable pair of Olivia Anastos and Mia Shuler displayed exceptional teamwork, resulting in a 8-3 victory over Penn State Altoona’s Mikhaela Merca and Caitlin Blessel.
A dominant performance was displayed in No. 2 doubles from Lock Haven’s Natalie Brown and Alaina Marchioni securing an impressive 8-1 win against Rachel Stricek and Isabella Rhoades of Penn State Altoona.
The final doubles point was awarded to Lock Haven by forfeit for partners Mary Kathryn Hillman and Emma Harry.
The Sunday mid afternoon heat was unable to slow down Lock Haven’s success and in wake of an impressive doubles performance the team continued to shine in singles action.
Playing in the No. 2 spot, Anastos initiated success by defeating Blessel with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. Shortly after, junior Christy McLean claimed her first singles victory by defeating Rhoades 6-0, 6-4. Undefeated freshman Claire Long maintained her winning streak after defeating Lauren Stich 6-2, 6-3. By forfeit, No. 6 Brown gained another point for their team.
This resounding win leaves the Lock Haven tennis team with an unblemished 4-0 record for the season, marking them as a force to be reckoned with in the world of college tennis and a team to look out for in upcoming competitions.
