Ariana Grande is Suing Forever 21 over False Endorsements. Recently on September 3, Ariana Grande has sued Forever 21 for 10 million dollars for using an unauthorised marketing campaign in her name.
The fashion retailer used her photos from her music video on Instagram and had a look alike wearing clothes closely to Grande’s aesthetic to falsely suggest that she’s behind it.
According to the NewYork Times, Forever 21 marketing reached out to her representatives for an endorsement deal, but Grande decline for not being paid enough. It was after the release of her “Thank You Next” album that she noticed her images were being used on their instagram, and called her lawyers for reimbursements.
The lawsuit includes screenshots of the look alike copying her styles from her music videos, and Forever 21 using her song lyrics for the captions. The singer and her team didn’t appreciate a
misperception of her endorsing their brand.
According to Today Style that Forever 21’s statement to them was, “Forever 21 does not comment on pending litigation as per company policy. That said, while we dispute the allegations, we are huge supporters of Ariana Grande and have worked with her licensing company over the past two years. We are hopeful that we will find a mutually agreeable resolution and can continue to work together in the future.”
According to Daily Dot, before the lawsuit Forever 21 was filing for bankruptcy. The fashion retail is in debt and lenders are currently stalling any type of negotiations. Their goal was to start a new and recreate a smaller company. It seems though this controversy with Grande is making their problems even worse.
Adding on to the controversy, a drag queen named Farrah Moan claims Grande copied her style for her seven rings music video and that Grande’s style isn’t as original as she claims. According to the Rupaul drag queen, Grande’s team took a picture of one of her looks and gave it to a designer to copy it. Moan’s wants a cut of Grande’s 10 million for allegedly stealing off of her. Moan’s also claim that Grande’s team are hypocrites for suing Forever 21 when what they did to Grande is what her team did to her.
