Disney’s official fan club, D23, is making headlines left and right with the announcements that they made on September 12, 2022 at the D23 Expo. This event was for Disney’s biggest fans all over the world and displayed some of the upcoming changes that are going to be happening in the coming year.

This coming year they are taking advantage of their 100th anniversary to make even more Disney magic in never before seen ways, with additions to their parks, new movies, a new logo and so much more.

Many of these changes are focusing on platinum. Platinum is a rare, lasting and beloved metal, much like many of Disney’s own characters. Mickey Mouse, one of Disney’s most notable characters, is getting a platinum outfit. They are going so far as to change the Disney logo to platinum rather than gold which will first be used in the upcoming movie Strange World, in theaters this November.

Disney is not just changing their brand this coming year but expanding it even more. Disneyland is adding two never before seen nighttime spectaculars, often a firework/light show just before the park closes, and a statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse near the Cinderella Carousel in Hong Kong. Disney World is also adding a new nighttime spectacular at the Lagoon in EPCOT.

Three new live action remakes were also announced during the D23 event. The Little Mermaid, Haunted Mansion, and Peter Pan and Wendy are all going to come to theaters in 2023. The Little Mermaid has even sparked a casting controversy among the general public.

The D23 Expo also announced the production of a new animated series called ‘Wish’. This show is going to be about a kingdom in which everyone’s wishes come true and is an idea that Walt Disney worked on himself.

Disney decided to include the introduction of Disney 100: The Exhibition which is set to open on February 18 2023, starting in Pennsylvania’s own Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. The Exhibition showcases items that have been locked in the Disney Archive vaults for many year, displaying artifacts from the original Disney brand and even some from beyond, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic.

D23 members also got the chance to see brand new books from Disney Publishing, new merchandise from the Decades Collection and got a preview of the Platinum collection.

The D23 Expo has given much to Disney fans to look forward to, as shown on the D23 website.
