Seahawks Soar Past Lions: In a hard fought battle this weekend, the Seattle Seahawks bested the Detroit Lions in overtime by a score of 37-31. This game was truly a rollercoaster of back-and-forth score changes, it was anyone’s game all throughout. On the Seahawks, Geno Smith threw for 328 yards and two passing touchdowns, both caught by Tyler Lockett. Lockett finished the day with eight receptions for 59 yards along with the two trips to the endzone. Running back Kenneth Walker III, also managed to get into the endzone twice as he rushed for 43 yards gaining 2.5 yards per carry. The Seahawks defense racked up two sacks and one interception on the day. Other than that interception, Lions quarterback Jared Goff, had a solid day for himself as he threw for 323 yards and three passing touchdowns. His top target Amon-Ra St. Brown, had 102 receiving yards on the day and Goff’s wide receiver two Josh Reynolds, caught two of Goff’s three passing touchdowns. The game was sealed as Tyler Lockett’s second TD on the day came in overtime to give the Seahawks their first win of the season. Next week, the Seahawks head back home to Seattle to host Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers while the Lions will have another home game against a conference opponent as they take on Bijan Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons.
Better Bucc Next Time, Chicago: The Tampa Buccaneers continue to stun the league as they move on to 2-0 on the year after winning their home opener against the Chicago Bears 27-17. Starting quarterback of the Buccaneers Baker Mayfield has struggled so far in his NFL career with the Bucs being his fourth team in only six years. Even though it is early in the season, starting off 2-0 on the season is remarkable as the Buccaneers were projected to be the second worst team in the league. Mayfield threw for 317 yards and one passing touchdown. Wide receiver Mike Evans had a dominant performance catching the only touchdown pass from Mayfield and racking up 171 receiving yards. On the ground, Tampa running back Rachaad White ran for 73 yards and one touchdown. The Bucs defense even had a day with six sacks, two interceptions and two fumbles. On the losing side, there was not a lot of brightness from the Bears on Sunday. Quarterback Justin Fields only threw for 169 yards with 104 of them going to new wide receiver DJ Moore. The Bears start the year off at 0-2 and may be starting to regret trading away the first overall pick in this year’s draft. The Bears defensive coordinator, Alan Williams, resigned earlier this week, not even a quarter of the way into the season. The season looks promising for the Buccaneers, but not so much for the Bears. Next week, the Buccaneers will be hosting the reigning conference champion and currently undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. The Bears stay on the road and go out to the Midwest to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Ravens Reign in the Jungle: The Baltimore Ravens, who were underdogs this weekend, went to Ohio and took care of divisional business as they took down the Cincinnati Bengals 27-24. The Ravens were without some key players this game such as JK Dobbins, Tyler Linderbaum, Ronnie Staley, Marlon Humphrey, and Marcus Williams, but it did not matter as they remained undefeated on the season. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, continues to showcase why he was an MVP back in 2019. Jackson threw for 237 passing yards, two touchdowns, and ran for 54 yards as well. It was also critical to have Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews back in the starting lineup as he made his way into the endzone and had 45 receiving yards on the day. Rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers, is really becoming a factor in this Ravens offense as he had another excellent performance of 62 yards on four catches. As for the Bengals, their struggles continue as they fall to 0-2. Quarterback Joe Burrow, threw for 216 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception to Geno Stone. Wide receiver Tee Higgins, was certainly the Bengals most impactful players as he caught both of Burrow’s touchdown passes and picked up 89 receiving yards. The Bengals went to the conference championship last season so starting the year off 0-2 is less than ideal. Burrow got an enormous contract worth $275 million, making him the highest paid player in NFL history. He is still yet to show this season that he is worth that money. Next week, the Ravens head back to Baltimore to host the Indianapolis Colts, while the Bengals still in search of their first win head to California to play the Los Angeles Rams.
