Alpha Sigma Tau, a sorority at Lock Haven, hosted their 40th annual Rock-A-Thon fundraiser on Oct. 13 through Oct. 14. The fundraising event was located in front of the bell tower as a 24-hour event.

During the 24-hour window, sorority sisters rocked on rocking chairs all day and all night, showcasing their chapter’s dedication and determination when fundraising for their philanthropies.

“Friday we had great turnout. While Saturday was raining, a lot of people came out to support and donate to this cause” said senior Sadie Nahman, the Director of Philanthropy for Alpha Sigma Tau.

There are two philanthropies, both local and national, that their chapter chose to fundraise for the entirety of this October: Roads to Peace and Dress for Success.

Roads to Peace proves to be a safe place for sexual and domestic abuse survivors. This non-profit organization is local to the Lock Haven community, and provides these survivors with not only hope, but with legal advocacy, medical treatment, counseling and much more to help them get back on track and heal.

Dress for Success supports working women and provides them with professional attire and the necessary tools they need to succeed in the work force. This international, not-for-profit organization empowers women by extending a helping hand to women aspiring to achieve economic independence.

So far this chapter has raised over $1,200; anyone wishing to donate directly can do so via this link.

On Oct. 30, a donation raffle will be held. In exchange for donations such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, water, snacks and other essential items, you will receive a raffle ticket to win one of their prizes.

Although this fundraising event is considered Alpha Tau’s largest of the year, they are still continuing to raise money for their philanthropies and are holding a donation drive the whole month of October. This donation drive will collect toiletries, cleaning supplies, snacks, and water for Roads to Peace. All other donations will be presented to the two organizations in the first week of November.
