LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – On March 6, Lock Haven’s Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) held their second career connections exposition of the spring semester. This expo focused on public relations, sales, marketing and communication. It ran from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m..

The attendance and number of tables at this expo decreased significantly compared to the Public, Government, and Health & Human Services exposition

“These are an amazing opportunity for them just to learn about companies that they may never have heard of or opportunities that they didn’t even know were possible,” said Liz Ortiz, a human relations representative from Fastenal

Ortiz noted that a lot of fresh college graduates expect to get a job in a firm for their field. However, they can forget that there are viable positions for them throughout a variety of different companies.

Jolene Bell, a recruiter for the Office of Administration, stresses the benefits you can get by working for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. One of the benefits Bell mentions is student loan forgiveness after 10 years of public service. Other benefits range from health insurance, retirement, and competitive pay.

Through these expos, Bell states that you can learn about a variety of internships. These internships are valuable for not only work experience but also professional networking.

“I do always really encourage student attendees to get to know what’s out there. You might find something that you never think of,” Bell said.

Upcoming events presented by the CCPD for students to look out for:

  • Education Career Connections Expo on March 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bloomsburg Student Rec. Center.
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Career Connections Expo on March 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lock Haven DACC ballroom.

When she’s not writing, Breanna can be found chilling with her dogs, taking on some sort of crafting project, or working as a server. Breanna hopes to continue to learn about the media and journalism world and find ways to incorporate her own flare into her assignments and projects.
