LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – There is no better way to start a season than with a win, and that is exactly what head coach Dan Mulrooney and the Bald Eagles did versus Post University (0-1). The Lock Haven football team (1-0) took the lead early and never relented, soaring to a 58-7 win.

Defense set the tone early, scoring two touchdowns on Post’s opening two drives. The first thanks to Penn State transfer Cody Romano who took a fumble 48-yards to the house. Then the LHU offense came alive thanks to quarterback Danny Sanchez and running back Chris Collier. Sanchez threw two TD passes in the first quarter as Lock Haven jumped out to an early 28-0 lead.

After Post scored a touchdown of their own, LHU got right back on the attack as another passing touchdown from Sanchez to wide receiver T’air Young made it 35-7. Lock Haven continued to pour it on, scoring another 23 points.

Mulrooney had a fantastic start to his second season as head coach, as he captured the first home win for the Bald Eagles in two years. “I told the team welcome to the new Lock Haven,” Mulrooney said. “We won one time last year as a program, and when you work hard like that, you get results, and that’s a testament on how we work.”

HIGH TENSIONS:

The quick opening from Lock Haven seemed to influence the players of Post University. The Eagles took multiple unsportsmanlike penalties from starting fights with Lock Haven players. The most appalling of which happened in the third quarter when WR Chase Holmes was blocking and was forced out of bounds. While out of bounds, some Post benchwarmers poured water on Holmes. This unsportsmanlike act would not go unnoticed as Lock Haven proceeded to score 30 unanswered points and dominate the Eagles of Post University.

UP NEXT:

Lock Haven will look to keep momentum going into their next matchup at Mercyhurst on Sept. 9. Mulrooney and his team seem up to the challenge.

“They’re a really good team,” Mulrooney said. “They played the #1 team in the country last week and they played them tight. Every week will be a battle, but my hope in the PSAC is to just be more competitive. I hope this makes a statement to the PSAC that we are a lot better than we were last year.”
