LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bald Eagles (13-5) played host to the Bloomsburg Huskies (4-15) On Thursday, Jan. 29. While the Huskies attempted a second half comeback, it wouldn’t end up being enough, as The Haven held on to win 80-68. With the win the Bald Eagles continue to sit atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East standings and show no signs of slowing down.

As always it was guard Justice Shoats who led the way, scoring 25 points on 12-of-19 shooting, while also dishing out four assists. Alongside Shoats’ great night, center Dyson Harward had another dominant showing. Harward recorded his third double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and pulling in 13 rebounds, while helping to anchor the defense down low.

The first half was dominated by Lock Haven, scoring 41 points in the half, while holding Bloomsburg to just 28. Huskies forward Jake Nelson tried his best to keep his team in it, scoring their first 7 points of the game. However, after a couple nice plays from Shoats, including a flashy dunk, the Bald Eagles looked poised to cruise to another easy win.

Bloomsburg wouldn’t go down quietly though, and in the second half they came out firing. Guards Dylan Harris and Jagger Dressler both connected on a pair of three-point shots, leading the way as the Huskies shot 43% from beyond the arc in the half. Bloomsburg continued to cut the lead down piece by piece, getting it to within eight points with 5:59 left in the game. However, sophomore forward Mike Knouse made some big plays down the stretch, as Lock Haven successfully fought off the Huskies comeback attempt.

“We left a lot of plays out there offensively” Bald Eagle Head Coach Mike Nestor said when asked about the game. “We missed seven or eight layups; we missed a couple of looks that could have put us up 20 and kind of made it an easier night. But when it all shakes out getting the win is what’s important, and being able to notch another win on the collum is a big deal for us.”

GAME CHANGING STATS:

Shoats (25) and Harward (12) led the way in scoring, while Harward (13) and Dyllon Scott (6) helped the Bald Eagles outrebound the Huskies 40-30.

Lock Haven will look to extend the win streak to double digits as they travel to Millersville to take on the Marauders at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 31.
