LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team (18-1) hosted the Bloomsburg Huskies (4-15) on Monday, Jan. 29. The Bald Eagles jumped out to a 43-23 lead at halftime but a 17-8 run by the Huskies in the third quarter cut the deficit to just 11. Lock Haven held on for a 68-52 victory.

“We played some better basketball in the first half today,” Lock Haven head coach Jennifer Smith said. “A lot of credit to them [Bloomsburg], they came out and played hard. We figured out a way to win, and it was nice to see Carly step up tonight and knock some shots down.”

Jenadia Jordan opened the game by scoring seven points to give Lock Haven a 9-4 lead. Abby Jacoby and Carly Fitzmorris each made a three-point shot to give the Bald Eagles an 11-point lead after the first quarter (21-10).

Leah Kale and Ava Stevenson each hit a three-point shot for the Huskies to close the gap (29-16). Ella Kale was called for a technical foul, sending Robinson to the line for two. Robinson made both shots giving Lock Haven the momentum to close out the half. Fitzmorris hit two three-point shots and two foul shots to give Lock Haven a 43-23 lead at the half.

Fitzmorris had 13 points for The Haven at halftime.

“We need somebody that’s going to be able to stretch the floor and put the ball in the basket,” Smith noted. “She was playing some really great basketball in the beginning of the season, got an injury, and has been trying to work her way back.”

Bloomsburg opened the second half on a 10-2 run to make the score 45-33. Maddie LaFrance hit a three-point shot with an assist by Allison Hileman. Hileman scored three points of her own during the run. After a jumper by Katie Starr and five successful foul shots by Emma Spindler (2) and L. Kale (3), the Huskies were only down 51-40 heading to the final quarter of play. Free throws made the difference in the third quarter, as eight of Bloomsburg’s 17 points came from foul shots.

Lock Haven did not look back and cruised through the final quarter to grab a 68-52 victory over Bloomsburg.
