Sept. 6 is the day that I attended the $uicideboy$’ Grey Day 2022 tour. Ever since I ordered the tickets, I’ve been full of anticipation waiting for the moment I heard Scrim and Ruby live. A total of eight artists performed including $uicideboy$ as the headliners. The concert lasted for approximately five hours, starting at 6 p.m. and ending 11 p.m. I am going to discuss my experience at the concert and review the Grey Day 2022 tour.

For those unfamiliar with $uicideboy$, they are a rap duo who make music about dealing with drug addiction, relationship problems, and mental illnesses. I discovered their music back in 2017, and the first song I heard from them was “For the Last Time.” Their music helped me get out of a dark place mentally, which is why I’m forever grateful I discovered them on SoundCloud. The Grey Day tour celebrates their newest album titled “Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation.” My current favorite songs from the album include “Genesis,” “THE_EVIL_THAT_MEN_DO,” and “Escape from BABYLON.”

The other seven artists that perform at the Grey Day 2022 tour include Ski Mask the Slump God, $not, Maxo Kream, DJ Scheme, JPEGMAFIA, Knocked Loose, and Code Orange. I was only able to see a total of five artists that night because of traffic on the way to the venue, arriving around 7 p.m. Maxo Kream was finishing up his set when I found my ticket section. $not was the next artist to perform, and was the only artist of the day to physically join the mosh pit during the performance. At the end of his performance, I went to the merch stand and bought three shirts; two of them were $uicideboy$’s merch and the other was a generic tour shirt. I appreciate the mix-up of genres, especially with Knocked Loose’s set because they were the only hardcore metal-sounding band compared to the majority of predominant rap artists. Another thing I highly appreciated was when Ski Mask sang tribute songs to deceased artists Juice Wrld and XXXTentacion. My favorite moment of his performance was when he gave out water to the crowd for them to throw during a certain beat of a song.

As a $uicideboy$ fan, my expectations for their performance were extremely high because of their reputation for being hype and aggressively opening the pit. If I was able to buy general admission tickets the mosh pit would have been up to par with the band’s standards. $B’s setlist had a good mixture of old and new songs, and hearing their song Antarctica live was life-changing. One thing I always loved about this group is the way they care for their fans. Before Ruby tells the crowd to open the mosh pit, he says “If you see someone fall, immediately stop and help them up” which is uncommon, as artists don’t usually care for those who choose to mosh at the shows. Throughout their set I was in a trance hoping that the event could last forever. Personally, I prefer listening to them in person than in my car. Scrim dedicated five minutes of the show to express his gratitude to his fans and brought awareness to dealing with addiction and mental illnesses by sharing his hardships. The last song they played was “…And to Those I Love, Thanks for Sticking Around.”

The Grey Day 2022 tour is my new favorite concert experience, and I can’t wait to buy tickets for their next year’s tour. Through this experience, I learned it’s better to arrive at the concert early to avoid missing the opening artists. I was surprised to have enjoyed the clash Knock Loose brought to the concert and seeing the crowd’s reaction to their music. Out of all the artists I’ve seen live, $uicideboy$ is easily the best, and I can officially check off seeing them live from my bucket list. I hope my experience encourages more people to listen to $uicideboy$, and to maybe buy a ticket to experience the Grey Day 2022 tour for themselves.
