LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (9-7) hosted the Shippensburg Raiders (9-6) in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 21. The Raiders grabbed a 5-4 victory in game one, and came out on top in game two, 6-4. 

“They battled in the second game,” Lock Haven head coach Kelly Shannon said. “I think the first game was a little back and forth. We just came up short in a couple of little areas, and hopefully they’ll make the adjustments for tomorrow.”

Game 1

The Raiders scored quickly in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Hannah Marsteller. Morgan Lindsay scored another run for Shippensburg giving them a 3-0 advantage heading to the bottom of the first. The Bald Eagles quickly scored two runs to close into Shippensburg’s lead after one.

Katelyn Minney scored another run for the Raiders in the top of the third extending their lead, 4-2. Lock Haven answered with a run, cutting Shippensburg’s lead, 4-3 heading to the top of the fifth. 

In the fifth inning, Minney scored another run for the Raiders, and Rianna Trexler scored a run for the Bald Eagles.

Lock Haven pitcher Jada Schellhammer allowed two walks over seven innings.

Game 2

The Bald Eagles got on the board first after a run by Riley McClellan. The Raiders tied up the game in the third after a run by Caitlyn Martell. 

In the fourth inning, Marsteller hit a double to bring home Minney and Martell. Taylor Myers brought home Marsteller to give Shippensburg a 5-1 lead. Marsteller scored again for the Raiders in the top of the sixth.

Lock Haven fought back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Sydney Arrigale and a two-run home run by Summer Peters, but it was not enough as Shippensburg grabbed a 6-4 victory.

Marsteller finished with five total RBI’s on the day for the Raiders.

UP NEXT… Lock Haven will host Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday, Mar. 22 in a doubleheader match (1/3 p.m.)
