LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men’s wrestling team (6-8) hosted the Clarion Golden Eagles (8-7) in a MAC East dual on Thursday, Feb. 1. It was a back-and-forth match with Lock Haven coming out on top 25-16.  

“We knew there were going to be a lot of close battles,” Lock Haven head coach Scott Moore said. “Ultimately it came down to who got the big moves and who scored the most points. Nick Stonecheck got a big pin at 149. Total team effort, Clarion is a tough team. We’re happy to come out with this win.”

The dual started at 165 with Clarion getting the victory after a 2-1 decision victory by Eli Brinsky over Eric Alderfer

Tyler Stoltzfus recorded a victory over John Worthing via injury forfeit at 174. 

At 184, Cam Pine recorded a major decision victory (17-5) over Cael Black.

Colin Fegley recorded a tech fall victory (17-2, 5:53) over Brett Wittmann at 197.

Clarion earned back-to-back victories at 285 and 125 from John Meyers and Joey Fischer, respectively. Meyers earned a 7-4 decision victory over Ethan Miller at 285. Fischer won by decision (9-6) over nationally ranked Anthony Noto at 125.

From there it was all Lock Haven, winning three of the remaining four matches.

At 133, Gable Strickland earned a 9-1 victory via major decision over TJ England to give Lock Haven a 15-13 lead with three matches remaining.

At 141, Wyatt Henson recorded a major decision (14-4) victory over Ryan Sullivan. Henson is 29-1 on the year.

Stonecheck recorded a win via fall (1:34) over Kyle Schickel at 149. Stonecheck was in danger of being pinned, but a reversal helped Stonecheck get the pin over Schickel. Stonecheck now has 12 straight wins.

“I try to stay positive in moments like that,” Stonecheck mentioned. “Some things will not go your way. You got to figure out how to adapt and overcome adversity and that’s exactly what I did.”

At 157, Connor Eck went to overtime against Alejandro Herrera-Rondon. Eck had two crucial takedowns in the third period to send it to overtime. Herrera-Rondon won after getting a takedown via decision (9-6).

Lock Haven will travel to Navy on Friday, Feb. 2. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
