LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team hosted Mansfield (8-9) on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The Bald Eagles (16-1) held a 44-40 lead after the third quarter but a 17-6 run in the fourth quarter gave Lock Haven a 61-46 victory. The Bald Eagles have now won 16 straight games. 

“We’re being consistent with keeping it close and pulling it out in the fourth quarter,” Lock Haven head coach Jennifer Smith said. “We really struggled offensively today. We have a lot of good basketball players, but we have to fix our offensive end.”

Lock Haven had a 16-8 lead over Mansfield in the first quarter. Two buckets by Jasmine Hilton and Cydney Stanton cut Lock Haven’s lead to 16-12 over Mansfield at the end of the first quarter. The Bald Eagles maintained their lead at halftime (26-21). 

Mansfield came within three of Lock Haven (35-32) with 3:36 remaining in the third quarter, but a technical foul call on Kristen Fulford gave Taylor Leidy two foul shot attempts. Leidy made both to give the Bald Eagles a 37-32 lead. Lock Haven had a 44-40 lead over Mansfield after the third quarter. 

Mansfield tied the game at 44 after three points from Stanton. From there it was all Lock Haven ending the quarter on a 17-2 run. Leidy contributed five points over the final minutes. Alana Robinson, Jenadia Jordan, and Rhlyn Rouse each had four points. 

“We all work together,” Leidy said. “It’s all a team effort, we do it together. To be where we are now at 16-1 is incredible. It shows the hard work of our coaches and players. We’re here and we want to win.”

TOP SCORERS:

Jordan (17), and Leidy (10) hit double digits for the Bald Eagles. Robinson finished with a double-double after a 12-point, 11-rebound performance. 

Hilton finished with 13 points for Mansfield. Fulford had 10 points.
