LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men’s wrestling team hosted Buffalo (8-10) in their home opener. The Bald Eagles (3-7) jumped out to a 12-4 lead but Buffalo won the last six matches to grab the 23-12 victory.
“It was a good match,” Lock Haven head coach Scott Moore said. “Our guys wrestled hard and it came down to a few positions and a few matches which usually it does. We didn’t have a full lineup tonight. We didn’t have some of our normal starters but I believed in the guys we put in there and we wrestled hard. We just didn’t execute in a few positions.”
At 125 pounds, Logan Sallot fell to Max Elton by major decision (10-1).
Gable Strickland, Wyatt Henson, and Nick Stonecheck all recorded victories for the Bald Eagles. Strickland won by major decision (16-4) over Tommy Maddox at 133 pounds. At 141 pounds, Henson recorded a 21-6 tech fall victory over Caleb Brooks (4:09).
Stonecheck picked up a third straight win for the Bald Eagles over Kaleb Burgess. Stonecheck earned himself an escape point in the second period to go up 1-0. The two wrestlers exchanged reversals twice with Stonecheck earning the 6-4 decision victory.
“[Stonecheck] was nationally ranked earlier in the year,” Moore mentioned. “We teach these guys to wrestle through the position, wrestle to the end and that’s what he did. He was able to get two good reversals and find himself on top. It was a really good win for him.”
Stonecheck’s victory gave Lock Haven a 12-4 lead, but Buffalo took control from there, winning the remaining six matches.
At 157 pounds, Nick Stampoulos won by decision (7-3) over Connor Eck. Hunter Shaut won by decision (7-4) over Eric Alderfer at 165 pounds. Jay Nivison recorded a 3-2 decision victory at 174 over Tyler Stoltzfus.
At 184 Chase Kranitz won by decision (7-5) over Colin Fegley. Sam Mitchell won by major decision (15-3) over Cael Black at 197. Magnus Bibla posted an 11-6 decision victory over Ethan Miller at 285.
