LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women’s wrestling team (9-4) hosted York (4-3) on Sunday, Jan. 21. The Bald Eagles dominated the match with five pins and a tech fall to grab a 44-5 victory.

“York is a brand new program,” Lock Haven head coach Matt Lackey said.  “A first year program and they’re where we were three years ago. They had a  good amount of wrestlers out there for their first year. That’s exciting to see how many they do have in the lineup, and of course, most are fairly inexperienced. We were able to take advantage of that. Hats off to them for being a first year program and coming over here.”

The Bald Eagles had three forfeit victories with Emma Heslin, Samantha Reitnour, and Paige Jackson at 101, 116, and 155, respectively.

York’s lone win on the night came by forfeit at 143 with Maura White.

At 109, Kaelani Shufeldt made quick work of Faith Warner, winning by fall (0:50).

Carly Gross earned the only tech fall of the match with a 10-0 (2:17) victory over Megan Knapp at 123.

At 130, Lily Sherer made quick work of her match, pinning Ava Weibley in 35 seconds. Madison Matta also won her match via pin over Naylee Ierley in just over two minutes at 136.

At 170, Jessica Johnson won by fall (0:27) over Allison Brandt. At 191, Trinity Monaghan earned the quickest pin of the night over Emma Lavalle in just 20 seconds.

“Pins are always big in dual meets,” Lackey mentioned. “When you can put five points on the board for your team and allow zero for them on the other side, that’s a big margin of victory. In tighter contested matches, those are going to really play into the outcome.”
