LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven women’s wrestling team (1-0) faced off against Elmira (2-3) in their home opener. Lock Haven closed out the match with a 35-12 victory. 

“Good first outing for our home opener,” Lock Haven head coach Matt Lackey said. “There’s always things we can improve on. The girls that went out there and won matches tonight, they all won in pretty dominant fashion. Overall, I think we did great.”

Lock Haven started off with back-to-back victories. At 101, Emma Heslin won by fall (0:20) over Taylor Goguen. At 109, Kaelani Shufeldt defeated Kaitlyn Potter by pinfall (1:48).

“Those two are both such high energy wrestlers and are just a great way to get the match started,” Lackey noted. “Emma has an energetic personality and it’s really fun to have somebody like that start off for you and get things rolling.”

Jayleah Pletz, Lily Sherer, Madison Matta, Grace Stem, Jessica Johnson, and Trinity Monaghan grabbed victories for the Bald Eagles. 

Pletz won by decision (8-4) over Abby Duke at 116. At 130, Sherer also grabbed a decision victory (10-2) over Gabby Bradigan

At 136, Matta won by fall (1:19) over Tess Clabaugh. No. 9 ranked Johnson pinned Hazel Dahlquist at 170 (0:27). 

143 featured a top-10 matchup. No. 3 ranked Stem won by tech fall (10-0, 2:52) over No. 10 ranked Zoey Lints. Monaghan won by forfeit at 191. 

Megan Edwards and Skylah Chakouian recorded victories for Elmira at 123 and 155, respectively. Edwards defeated Mackenzie DelVecchio by fall (2:00). Chakouian also won by pinfall (1:39) over Paige Jackson

PIN-Town:

Lock Haven recorded four pins on the night with Heslin, Shufeldt, Matta, and Johnson.

Lock Haven has a trio of matches on Sunday, Dec. 10 against Sacred Heart, New England College and Delaware Valley at the Sacred Heart Quad.
