LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team hosted Mansfield (6-11) on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Lock Haven and Mansfield were tied 61-61, but a 28-17 run to end the game propelled the Bald Eagles (11-5) to an 89-78 victory, extending their win streak to seven. 

“It’s good to get a win,” Lock Haven head coach Mike Nestor said. “I think we’ve taken so many leaps over the last couple years. They play as tough as they can. I knew it was going to be a tough game. We had 40 bench points so you can see that our bench is deep. Our bench is the reason we won tonight.”

Lock Haven jumped out to a 7-4 lead over Mansfield but efficient shooting from Scott Woodring and Idris Ali gave the Mounties a 13-7 lead. Dyson Harward and Isaiah Stewart each made a three-point shot to tie the game at 13. Lock Haven closed out the first half with a 35-30 lead over Mansfield.

Mansfield cut the deficit to two in the second half, 45-43. Justice Shoats scored five points to help the Bald Eagles jump out to a 52-45 lead. Mansfield cut the lead to one after Ty Barrett hit two three-point shots. The Bald Eagles jumped out to a 61-58 lead but another three-point shot from Barrett tied the game up at 61. 

The Bald Eagles would pull away and grab the victory over Mansfield. 

TOP SCORERS:

Lock Haven had four players hit double digits on the night. Shoats had a game-high 22 points. Bryson Scott had 15 points. Collin Jones contributed 11 points. Dyllon Scott finished with 10 points. 

“Offensively, we needed them [Bryson and Dyllon Scott],” Nestor said. “They get us some defensive stops too. They defended well when they were in.”

For Mansfield, Michael Dickson finished with 19 points. Saraj Ali had 15 points and I. Ali had 13 points.

Lock Haven will hit the road and visit Shippensburg on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
